Expansion Survey Update

5/7/24 – Expansion Survey Update

City Center Market Shoppers,

We would like to take a moment to express our gratitude to everyone who participated in our recent survey regarding expansion. The insight from over four hundred of our owners and shoppers is helping guide our efforts to ensure any expansion will reflect the perspective and preferences of those we look to serve.

We are thrilled to read about the overwhelming enthusiasm and support for City Center Market’s potential expansion, with many of you highlighting its benefits for the community as well as our co-op. Your suggestions provided us with a clearer picture for what our community envisions for City Center Market’s future. With your contributions, we are finalizing the new store layout and incorporating as many of your suggestions as possible.

Among the most popular requests are:

  • an expanded bakery/deli and coffee shop with a broader selection, including breakfast
  • more seating • larger produce section/selection • additional local vendors • a wider array of organic and healthy choices
  • community and class meeting spaces • an increased selection of grass-fed products • enhanced frozen food options
  • a variety of freshly baked goods • increased varieties of products that support special dietary needs • wider aisles • improved parking

We are optimistic that with expansion, we can bring many of your ideas to fruition, including all of those I have just mentioned. We also appreciate many of you raising concerns and asking questions, they did not go unnoticed.

We are committed to addressing all of your questions and concerns and will do our best to do so in future communications. While I cannot address all of them in this message, I do want to acknowledge two of the most frequently mentioned: how expansion might affect pricing and location. Although future food prices are uncertain, expansion would allow us to have more competitive pricing through increased purchasing power and operational efficiency, resulting in savings that we will pass on to you. As for our location, we have no plans to relocate. The space between City Center Market and Family Pathways is currently unoccupied, and we intend to extend into this area, nearly tripling the size of our current store.

“The possibility of City Center Market expanding is a testament to our community’s spirit and collaboration.”

The possibility of City Center Market expanding is a testament to our community’s spirit and collaboration. I am honored to be part of an organization deeply rooted in community values. The idea of a business growing with the support of its community, seeking input from the community, and directly incorporating that feedback into its expansion plans seems so rare. I am proud to be a part of City Center Market, and am deeply grateful to our Board, staff, owners, and the community. I am genuinely excited to be on this journey with you and look forward to what the future holds.

Cooperatively Yours,

John Kenny
